"Alphabet" refers to the raw materials of art: the letter, sound, typographic character, and visual sign, freed from their conventional functions to become forms through which artists build new languages.
"Haven" refers to Villa Cernigliaro and its historic park in northern Italy-a place of intellectual freedom, artistic exchange, and cultural resistance. Once a gathering place for anti-fascist intellectuals around Franco Antonicelli, the estate continued this legacy by welcoming experimental practices and offering artists space to develop their ideas.
The exhibition traces a personal and historical journey through Lettrism, Fluxus, and visual poetry. Beginning with Carlotta Cernigliaro's encounter and collaboration with Francesco Conz in Verona, this journey took root at the Villa, where international avant-garde traditions met the creative life of the surrounding Biella region.
Presented at El Nido, historical Lettrist works appear alongside works by Biellese artists who reinterpreted and extended these experimental languages. Together, they consider the possibilities of the letter beyond syntax-and the role of a place in preserving and encouraging artistic freedom.
